I just deleted Instagram

….and oh gosh it was painful. So much inspiration. I have gotten a lot of joy out of this app. I have so many artists that I follow there. . I use it to message funny or beautiful things to my family and friends. I learn new things. I see people dancing from around the world.

But it started to sour when they first changed the algorithm so that you didn’t see what your people published first. It started to sour when more and more ads started to show up. It really became stinky when we found out that Meta was using Insta/Fb to train its AI on our content. And now, just like so many other billionaire owned companies, it’s sharing shady shit. For a day you couldn’t search the word “democrat”. That’s fucking weird. Zuck is joining in the group of fucking weird people.

I could’ve stayed… I could’ve stayed and just not clicked on ads. For now that’s how I’m operating on FB. Until I delete all my content… But I watched a conversation on YouTube from 4 years ago with Katie Couric and the makers of the documentary “The Social Dilemma” and it just solidified how the negatives of social media truly does outweigh the joy. Here’s another convincing argument: Jaron Lanier’s ten artuments for deleting social media. He does a much better job at eloquently explaining how it’s best we step away from this particular universe.

So here I am at my blog that no one reads, remembering my very first website which was a blog from blogger, and how I would write things and throw them out to the universe…weird times pals. Weird times.
